Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Party
Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers growing in power within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of heroes who will split off from the main group to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.
Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might appear unsuited, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the team knows exactly where to head next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the character, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.
Casimir then settled his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each member has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, desires retribution.
- Kattigan has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty place.
- The warrior and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- But, their status as key figures in House Halovar could help the group access locations they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:
- Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The healer turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The target is marked for death by the clan.
This leaves them little choice but to head to Timmony in search of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Explorers and Strategists tables.
Fans can look forward to finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
